Urgent (Same Day) Appointments

Like many other practices, this surgery is making increasing use of Nurse Practitioners to provide care for minor illness. Nurse Practitioners can assess, examine and diagnose patients and provide advice and treatment, including prescriptions. Where necessary, they will be able to liaise with a GP once initial assessment of your condition has taken place.

We would ask that patients do not demand an urgent appointment where the condition does not merit this as it will use up precious appointments for others who genuinely do need to be seen on the day.

However, if you explain to the receptionist that you are sufficiently unwell to require being seen on the day you telephone you will not be refused an appointment, although we may refer you to other services, ie Moredon SUCCESS Centre or the Swindon Health Centre SUCCESS Centre in Islington Street.

Please see our Urgent Problems and Out of Hours page for information.

Our practice patients may also directly contact Moredon SUCCESS Children and Young People Clinic for patients aged 3 months to 18 years. Please ring 0300 111 0088 from 08:00 daily to book an appointment.

Appointment Types

All surgeries are by appointment, we have a mix of:

  • Pre-bookable Appointments: These can be booked up to 3 weeks in advance and, in response to patient feedback, we are in the process of increasing the proportion of pre-bookable appointments.
  • 24 Hour: Appointments that become available 24 hours in advance.
  • 48 Hour: Appointments that become available 48 hours in advance.
  • Same Day Appointments: These appointments can be booked on the day and are now all released at 8:30am each day with no further release of appointments at 2:00pm. It is therefore advisable to call as early as possible on the morning of the day on which you would like to be seen.
  • GP Telephone Appointments: If you feel that you do not necessarily need to be seen by a doctor you may request a telephone appointment (see below) and the doctor will call you on a nominated landline or mobile number. Please listen out for the doctor's call as they may not be immediately available to try again.

General Information

Choice of Doctor

We do try to accommodate patient choice where possible, but in the event of one doctor's surgery being fully booked you will be offered an appointment with another doctor.

Please Be On-Time

Many patients arrive late for their appointments, even being 5 minutes late means that you have, technically, missed your appointment. Although the doctors and nurses will try to see you if you are late, this cannot be guaranteed and you may be asked to re-book on another day.

Telephone Advice & Consultations

Telephone Advice

Telephone Advice may include queries about a prescription, a test result, a hospital appointment, a referral, a form that needs to be completed or advice about a minor ailment. Please call and ask the receptionist who will be able to help you.

Telephone Consultations with your Doctor

If you only need advice from the doctor or nurse you can book a telephone consultation by calling the Surgery. Please make sure you give the correct phone number to the receptionist and listen out for the doctor's call. A large proportion of calls made to patients go unanswered and this wastes valuable clinical time.

Advice is also available from the NHS 111 service by calling 111 from your landline or mobile phone.

If you anticipate that you may require an examination by the Doctor and feel that you would like a chaperone to be present, please make reception aware at the time of booking your appointment so that this can be arranged. For further information please see our Chaperones policy.
